The POD is designed to be comfortable - the special roofing material cuts down the noise of heavy rain and the window and lockable French doors are double glazed to reduce condensation and provide sound insulation. The wood used in the construction is a naturally 'warm' material but to provide extra winter warmth we have installed insulation inside the walls while a special foil layer under the roof helps keep summer temperatures in check. There is a small, high level window in the back wall, this not only provides light but will help keep the living space ventilated and aid 'through draft' on hot summer days.
Most sites now have their Pods connected to electricity and so provide a small heater, lighting and possibly a cool box for perishables. At minimum there should be a roller blind to the entrance door, and a soft floor covering or carpet. Some sites provide durable mattresses for sitting and sleeping on.
Otherwise you will need to provide your own bed roll or inflatable mattress. It is best to ask the site what is provided when booking. If you become a regular user of Pods there is the obvious benefit of assembling your own camping kit that suits Pod living. Our POD STUFF page has a few good ideas for kit that is in tune with living in a Pod and we have also put together a few recipe ideas for inspired eating from your camp kitchen!
Many of the Pod sites are in truly great locations for outdoor activities from surfing to mountaineering. Mountain biking, walking and cycling are well catered for and let us not overlook angling or just the opportunity for chilling out in a glorious natural setting with the birds singing or the stars above your head. After all, fast and convoluted modern lives sometimes need a big antidote. The Pod is an oasis of calm......a timeless and beautifully balanced space for living in the landscape.......Seek them out!
The Pod is wonderfully enigmatic - it is many things to many people. It has real presence...but does not impose. It is a complex shape.... but is beautiful in its simplicity. It is a ‘blank canvas’ which can be a basic shelter or dressed to be as sumptuous and elegant as you choose. It occupies a curious niche in our psyche that takes us back to the very roots of civilization on Earth - a shelter that our instincts tell us is the comfort zone that our ancestors knew well!
Time in a Pod is restful and positively energising......a place to get closer to yourself and your friends......enjoy.
Pods book up well in advance through busy periods and while the numbers of Pods are steadily growing demand is always likely to be greater than availability, so book as early as you can!
Always contact the site directly to check availability or make a booking as there is no central booking system at present.
We now show the sizes and numbers for each site which will help indicate which sites can accept multiple bookings.
If you have a dog check the site rules, some will accept dogs others don’t.
Cooking and naked flames are not permitted inside the Pods – to be fair you will want you’re Pod to have the fresh smell of sweet pine – so please leave it as you found it.
