The orange pointers are sites where PODs are available to hire. Red pointers are sites that have PODs and are open all year round. White pointers are sites still at planning stage who are looking to have PODs in the next 12 months or so.
Where possible we have backed up the pointer information with links to the campsites own website and contact details. Please check with individual sites for availability. It is early days for the POD with 2008 being the first full season - numbers will grow but until they do please bear with us.
In Search of PODs
The natural habitat of the POD is nestling in our cherished landscapes - locations such as the National Parks, the Forest Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the many other idyllic spots that we choose to get away from it. Alternatively you may find them supporting your enjoyment of the countryside close to the National Trails and other long-distance paths and cycle-ways. Who knows, in time it may be possible to 'do' the trails end to end by overnighting in PODs.
We are currently making progress working with campsite owners and other interests to establish a 'POD network' in the Lake District, supporting the ideas of sustainable tourism and 'tourism without traffic' (Some of you will know how bad that traffic can be!).
